Private PPL Pilot
Explore Southern Africa on your own terms
You hold a PPL and you've dreamed of flying over the Drakensberg, landing on a bush strip in Botswana, or touring the Karoo at low level. ZS-SOE is equipped for it. Walter will make sure you're ready.

Simple from first contact
to wheels up
Browse the aircraft calendar for your dates, then reach out to Walter directly. No automated booking — a real conversation with the owner.
Minimum 100 hours Pilot-in-Command required. A short bush-pilot orientation is mandatory unless you can demonstrate equivalent experience. Rental agreement and downpayment, and you're set.
ZS-SOE is fuelled, documented, and ready. Walter is available throughout your trip. Enjoy the kind of flying that brought him here in the first place.
Foreign license validation — what you need to know
Before you can legally fly ZS-SOE, your home country PPL needs to be validated by the SACAA. There are two types:
Ideal for holiday visits. Faster processing. Requirements are lighter — current licence, medical, logbook proof.
For frequent visitors or extended time in SA. More paperwork, longer processing — plan well ahead.
Walter has been through this process and can guide you step by step — from the paperwork checklist to realistic timelines. Don't leave it to the last minute.
A European pilot who fell in love with South Africa
A European pilot who fell in love with South Africa
My name is Walter Rijk. I founded Bushwings Aviation because I genuinely love flying in South Africa — and I want other pilots to be able to do the same.
Coming from a European background, I know exactly what it's like to land somewhere new with a foreign licence, unfamiliar terrain, and a stack of SACAA paperwork to work through. I've been there. That experience shapes how I run Bushwings.
When you rent ZS-SOE, you're not dealing with a faceless rental company. You're dealing with me — the person who maintains the aircraft, knows its quirks, and flies it regularly. I answer my own emails and my own phone.
ZS-SOE is well-equipped, well-maintained, and ready for Africa. I take real pride in that. Before you fly, I'll make sure you're prepared — whether that means a thorough briefing on bush strip operations, help with your licence validation, or simply talking you through what to expect on your route.
I hope to fly with you. — Walter
